Design and visualisation of an empty floor in the Schrodinger Building, Oxford.

  • Project Brief
  • We were approached by a digital technology company to design their new premises in Oxford. The aim was to tackle a range of spatial issues that they had been facing in their current location and to optimise staff interaction and workflow.

At the heart of the design was the operations room. This space is where a lot of intense work takes place so it had to be private, but still feel integrated with the rest of the team.

The biggest challenge was to give the operations team their own quiet space, while being open enough that they felt that they could interact with the development team. This was achieved by creating a room with 2 glass walls and balanced with a pattern on the glass which created privacy.

A client experience for visitors

The company wanted to create a client experience for when they have visitors. They wanted to show off the operations room, but at the same time create some privacy so visitors could see inside, but not necessarily know exactly what work is happening inside.

Giving employees a space to get away for a break and socialise

A communal kitchen and eating space were also an important aspect of this design to give the employees a space to get away for a break and socialise. This was achieved by creating a breakfast bar along with an informal workspace outside the kitchen for overflow. This informal workspace was also created to allow for the company’s expansion in the future and a second furniture layout of the floor was also created to future-proof the design.

Virtual reality and 3D visualisation

Virtual reality and 3D visualisation were used throughout this design project in order to help the client visualise our ideas and make changes quickly to the design to suit their needs.

We redesigned and transformed the client-facing spaces for a workplace in Barcelona. After spending time remodeling a lower floor for the staff, our final intervention involved creating an attractive and appealing series of spaces. This was to ensure that the business felt proud of their space and makes a difference to clients when they are invited to the office for meetings.
